LBI Rainy Day Guide: Things to Do When the Sky Isn’t Blue
Don’t worry if there is a rainy day on Long Beach Island because even if the sun isn’t shining doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! Shelly the Seagull knows that even stormy skies can lead to cozy, creative, and memory-filled days. Here’s a list of rainy day activities on LBI to keep your spirits soaring
1. Get Crafty with String Bracelets
Rainy days are perfect for creating beachy keepsakes. Grab some embroidery thread and beads and start a bracelet-making session with friends or family. Bonus points if you add a tiny shell charm. Who knows, maybe you will make enough to set up on the driveway on the next sunny day and sell a few.
2. See a Show
The Surf Light Theater is the perfect place to enjoy a rainy afternoon or evening. From toe-tapping musicals to kid-friendly performances, the Surflight brings big Broadway energy to the beach for a fantastic time.
3. Shop Til You Drop
A rainy day is the perfect time to explore the many unique and charming shops on the island. There are so many to choose from. You can start on one end of the island and make your way to the other, hitting endless choices along the way.
4. Start a Puzzle Party
While out on your shopping adventure why not pick up a puzzle. There’s nothing better than opening a brand-new puzzle while the rain taps on the windows. Pick a beach-themed one and make hot chocolate or popcorn for extra coziness.
5. Color the Day Away
Break out the crayons, markers, or colored pencils and let your imagination run wild. Shelly’s coloring book is filled with beach scenes, mini golf, bike parades, and seagull silliness that make even the gloomiest days bright. Because coloring is not just for paper, take some of the shells you have collected and turn them into treasured LBI keepsakes.
6. Hit the Arcade
A rainy day is the perfect day to hit one of the many arcades. Try the slots, claw machines, skeeball and more to rack up tickets for prizes. Take your family and friends to pool your winnings to come home with something special to mark the day.
7. Build a Beach Hut Indoors
Can’t make it to the sand? Bring the beach inside! Drape blankets, grab some flashlights, and read or snack in your homemade hideaway. Put on some beach tunes, sip a fun drink with a colorful straw and have your beach day at home.
8. Bake a Treat Inspired by LBI
Put your culinary skills to the test and try to make some LBI’s famous treats like elephant ears, gooey fudge, yummy donuts or beach-inspired sugar cookies in the shapes of sand dollars, seagulls, shells and more.
9. Take A Rainy Day Beach Walk
If the rain is just a drizzle, it might make a great time to head to the beach to admire the strength of mother nature as the ocean's big waves crash along the shore. Do a rain dance and see what beach treasures the ocean has brought to shore.
10. Dive into a Good Book
Cozy up with a blanket and a story that brings the sunshine in. Of course, Shelly the Seagull’s Long Beach Island Adventures is a must! Reading together makes the rainy day fly by.
Rain or shine, LBI is always full of adventure. The best memories aren’t just made in the sun—they’re made together.
